An Introduction

If you are reading this out of curiosity, and wondering what this blog is about so here I am to introduce myself!

[This is exciting! First post about myself, which has nothing to do with food or weight loss.] Lately, I have been busy with uni courses as you may have guessed, I'm currently a biotechnology student who is also working part time. My time is very crunched and in order to make the most of the time I have I use planners to get through and make most of the heavy work load. The process of creating a blog has been on my mind for ages. Yet, suppressed ideas can't be held back for too long now can they? Life has its ups and downs, and it is going to lead you places where you would not have imagined. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and this blog is a byproduct of life's hurdles.

Nevertheless, my newest obsession  has been planners and anything that is planning related. You get that productivity flow going on, and it feels like an rush of adrenaline and then reaching the goals you wanted. Addictive much? I will be posting once or twice each week to keep us updated on goals, planning my daily activities and anything fashion related. Here is the scheduler I'm currently using. It is a cheap one from a local Korean store.Peach Marmalade by morning glory. I'm a sucker for nude colors :] even if it is a bit outdated.

Low calorie recepie HUGE lots of ideas

NEW RECIPES APRIL 22nd 2014

New and Improved Microwave Cake
This is now my favorite microwave cake. It doesn't taste healthy at all. It's super moist and chocolatey. Yum  :)
1 egg white (17)
1 TBS cocoa powder (20)
Optional : you can replace 1 tsp cocoa powder with flour of choice if you want it more cakey and less fudgey. It's great both ways.
1 TBS 0 cal sweetener of choice
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 TBS applesauce (4)
Splash of almond milk if needed to thin it out to a batter-like consistency (2)
**Mix together all ingredients in a bowl or mug. Microwave for 60-90 seconds or until set. Enjoy.
Nutrition for entire recipe : 43 calories (very low carb!)

Favorite Zucchini Noodles
This is a super tasty lunch. It makes about 1 cup of salad (I eyeballed it, so that's a rough estimate) and you can double it and still be at a very good calorie count.
1/2 medium zucchini (16)
1/2 plum tomato (6)
Sprinkle each of dried basil and mint (or use fresh, if you have it on hand)
Dressing : I used apple cider vinegar with a splash of walden farms white balsamic vinaigrette. You can use any vinaigrette you want, but I like to let the flavor of the veggies and herbs shine through by using something pretty plain. I think it would be delish with a squeeze of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and a pinch of 0 cal sweetener to balance it out.
**Use a vegetable peeler on the zucchini lengthwise to make thin strips like noodles. Chop up the tomato. Sprinkle on the herbs. Just before serving, add the dressing and toss to coat. If you're taking it for lunch, bring the dressing separately, or else the zucchini noodles will get soggy and deflated.

Lemon Snow Pudding
Sorry I'm a little late for Easter, but keep this dessert in mind for your next spring get together. It takes a while to make, but it's worth it. It's like a cross between mousse and jello, with a fresh lemon flavor - yum  :)
**IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL RECIPE
-Use 0 calorie granulated sweetener instead of sugar. That's what I did, and it worked out fine, so don't worry  :)
-Skip the custard sauce. Instead, top it with sliced fresh berries (or eat it plain). My favorite topping, though? Sugar free meringue cookies. Hardly any calories, and the bit of crunch gives great textural contrast.
Makes 6 servings. Per serving: 15 calories (calculated with 0 cal sweetener and no toppings). With that calorie count, you could even top with whipped cream and still be looking at a completely guiltless dessert!

NEW RECIPES APRIL 15th 2014

Mexican Salad Dressing
Lime juice, chilli powder, 0 cal sweetener of choice, garlic powder, and salt - all to taste

Pad Thai
Miracle Noodles
Soy sauce (I use about 1 TBS for 2 servings)
Apple cider vinegar OR lime juice
Ginger + garlic (fresh or dried)
Bok choy or other mixed stir fry veggies
Nutrition facts vary, but will be most likely be under 25 calories per serving, depending on how much veg you use.

Holy Shit How Is This Low Cal Lava Cake
1 TBS flour of choice (I used chickpea)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 TBS cocoa powder
1/2 TBS almond milk (maybe a little more, to get a batter-like consistency)
1 TBS sweetener
1/2 TBS pumpkin or applesauce
1/2 TBS egg white
Pinch salt
A couple fresh or frozen strawberries or cherries, microwaved and mashed
**Mix together all ingredients except the berries in a bowl. Pour half the batter into a small baking dish. Put the mashed berries just in the center of the dish, then cover with the remaining batter. Bake about 12 minutes at 350F, or microwave 90 seconds. Optional add-ins: stir in a little plain yogurt to the berries to make the filling super decadent and creamy. It's almost like cheesecake filling!
Nutrition facts: Entire recipe is 45 calories

Magic Chocolate Bar
instead of using water, use strong brewed coffee - it enhances the chocolatey flavor and has no calories :)
This is so. Fucking. Awesome. Don't worry, it doesn't have an icy texture at all - it's slightly harder than regular chocolate, but very, very similar for a tiny fraction of the calories.
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup 0 calorie sweetener (or to taste)
Optional add ins: chopped nuts, coconut, mint extract, etc
**Mix all ingredients in a small pot over medium-low heat until it thickens. Pour into a shallow container and freeze until solid. Eat straight out of the freezer, or it will get messy.
Nutrition: 1/8 of the recipe (this is a LARGE piece, probably a couple square inches) - 25 cals

Big Green Crepe
1 cup spinach
1 TBS almond meal, protein powder, or any combination
1 tsp wheat bran (optional)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg white
2 TBS almond milk (water would probably work)
1 TBS applesauce
Flavorings: vanilla extract, cinnamon, 1 tsp cocoa powder
Sweetener, to taste
**Blend all ingredients in a small blender until completely smooth. Fry like regular pancakes, or pour mixture onto a plate and microwave for about a minute. You could even do this as a mug cake. Makes one BIG crepe or a few smaller pancakes.
Entire recipe: approx. 90 cals - almost entirely from protein and HEALTHY fats(if you use almond meal), this is a flat belly recipe that fills you up for ages.

Asparagus Rolls
These look super fancy and would be great little appetizers/side dishes for entertaining. Recipe makes one serving but is easily multiplied.
4 spears of asparagus
1/2 a roasted red bell pepper
1 TBS fat free cottage cheese
Salt&pepper to taste
**Line a pan with tin foil or parchment paper. Wrap the asparagus with pepper, and put a scoop of cottage cheese on top of the pepper. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes or until cheese is bubble and asparagus is softened.
Entire recipe: 40 cals

Apple Garbonzo cake
(replace chickpeas with navy beans to cut calories, but it's healthy either way)

Sugar Free Marshmallows

Sugar Free Candies

"Tacos"
Top whole leaves of romaine lettuce with plain yogurt and salsa. Calories will vary, but it's not very many. I swear, this tastes just like tacos. It's awesome.

Breakfast Cereal
Can be eaten hot or cold.
1 part natural bran
2 parts almond milk
Sweetener to taste
Mix-ins: chopped almonds, vanilla, chopped berries, cinnamon, cocoa powder, etc
Bran is about 30 calories per 1/4 cup, so one serving for that amount would be 50 cals. This is very high in fiber as well.

Almond Butter
1 cup unsalted almonds
About 1/2 cup almond milk (I didn't actually measure xD use as much as you want to get the texture you want)
**Blend all ingredients until smooth.
Yields a little over a cup. Per TBS: about 50 cals (remember, almonds are a flat belly food!)

Fat Free Salad Dressing
I never measured this out. Just make it so you think it tastes right :) This honestly tastes like normal-person salad dressing, and it's very low in calories.
Applesauce
Apple cider vinegar
Pinch sweetener
Flavorings to mix and match: any chopped fresh herbs, paprika, garlic, salt, pepper, even curry! Be creative ladies :)

Update March 24th

Chili Pies
Super filling and filled with protein and fiber. I cut carbs by omitting the canned corn and it turned out fine. It's really easy to pick off the polenta topping too, but I wouldn't leave it out completely.

Easy Creamy Tomato Soup
Makes about 3 cups, it looked like. I eat half of it spread out over the day.
Half a large can of diced tomatos
2-3 stalks of celery, finely chopped
1 cup fresh spinach
2 TBS low fat yogurt
Sprinkle each of basil, garlic, and pepper
Water, broth or milk of choice, to reach your desired consistency
**Soften the celery in a pot with a splash of water. Add tomatos, yogurt, liquid and seasonings. Bring to a boil, then add the spinach and cook until it is just softened. I eat this as is, but you could throw it in a blender too if you want a smooth soup.

Update March 25th
This made my life so much easier - Nutrition facts chart for lots of fruits and veggies

Stewed Rhubarb
I love this stuff so much i'll gladly eat it plain. But it's also a delicious topping for plain yogurt, cottage cheese, or ice cream. You can probably even use it as a pie filling (with wonton wrappers, of course ;))
2 cups rhubarb, diced
1/4 cup splenda or other sweetener (or to taste)
Pinch of salt
Optional - squeeze of lemon juice or a splash of vanilla
**Super easy. Just stir everything together in a dish and microwave for 4-5 minutes until rhubarb is very soft.
Yield about 2 cups. Per 1/2 cup: 13 calories (!!!!)

Pumpkin Freezer Fudge
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
3/4 cup cool whip free
A few packets of stevia or 2 TBS sweetener (taste to make sure you don't oversweeten. The cool whip is sweet)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Sprinkle salt
**Stir together all ingredients gently. Spread into a flat container (mine looked about 6x6 inches and it was about 1/2 thick). Freeze until solid. I cut it into 9 large squares. You can let it thaw at room temperature for a couple minutes for a softer bar if you want, but I like them straight out of the freezer.
Per each of 9 large squares: 20 calories. If you can afford the calories, this would be delicious with a few chopped pecans mixed in, or sweetened with agave.

Toastless French Toast
I was honestly surprised at how much this seemed like french toast!  It has the perfect firm, eggy texture.
1/2 TBS greek yogurt (makes it fluffier. You could probably sub regular yogurt, I can't vouch for it though)
1 TBS milk of choice
3 TBS egg whites
1/2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
Sprinkle of cinnamon
1/2 TBS mashed banana, applesauce, or pumpkin
**Whisk together all ingredients until they are foamy. Pour into a small baking dish and bake at 325 F for about 20 minutes (mine took 15 minutes in the toaster oven). The top should be golden brown and stay puffed up a bit when you take it out of the oven. Top with table syrup to really mimic french toast flavor!
Entire recipe, using fat free yogurt, almond milk, and pumpkin: 33 calories. Topped with 2 tsp sugar free syrup: 40 calories

How to make Oatmeal
Not really a recipe, but this is how to make a HUGE bowl of oatmeal out of 35 cals. Start with 2 TBS quick oats. Add up to a full cup of water. It will look super liquidy - that's what you want. Then microwave for at least 90 seconds, maybe a little more.  The oats will soak up the liquid and make a perfect texture. Add whatever flavorings you want (I like cinnamon and maple extract or a bit of cocoa powder). Seriously, this is the best breakfast ever, it makes LOADS out of a tiny bit of oats.

***
A few ideas (which you can figure out yourself or find a recipe for pretty easily!)
-cauliflower mash
-portabello mushroom pizzas/burgers
-egg white muffins
-sugar free meringues (crazy low calorie and awesome!)
-soy nuts (20g protein, 10g fiber, and about 250 cals in half a cup)

This is amazing have you tried low calorie brownies?
- 4 egg whites - 68
- 7 tbsp sugar (I have a very sweet tooth.. if you use less or use 0 cal sweetner its less calories) - 314
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder - 50
- 2 tsp vanilla extract - 0
- 3 tsp baking powder - 0

Mix together and cook for 10-15 mins at 180. Calorie amounts according to myfitnesspal. Makes 12 brownies at 37 cal each.

Another little thing I've found is a diet coke mug cake i love it it's like 7tbsp of diet coke,  3tbsp of flour (75 cals), 1tsp baking powder, 2tbsp cocoa (20-30 cals), some stevia/splenda/etc. (i use 2 packets), and a little over 100 but it makes like a big dense chocolatey cake so cut it in slices and smear on some pb2 or cream cheese for a nice lil breakfast for just over 100 cals

Pro ana with a cold? What to eat?

If you have been restricting so far and are down with a cold. Here are some life saving tips. Before you give up and reach for the throat soothing fatty soups try some of these tips before indulging and ruining your diet.
Step #1
Take Vitamin C pills. Make sure to get 1000mg per day atleast. This is more than the recommended daily dosage but if you have a cold you need it.

Step#2
Dont go for the fatty soups, reach for the lipton 50 calorie soups.

Step#3
Do crunches and backward lunges at home, since you cannot go to the gym with a cold.

Step#4

Get as much rest as possible

Should I loose weight first or build muscle first?

If you are overweight or obese then you should absolutely not even begin with exercising. If you build muscle underneath all that fat then it will make you look uglier and bigger. If you do cardio at this time, it would be bad for your heart, which has to pump for the extra weight plus the exercise, this can lead  to heart issues later on. For the first 6months loose the excess weight for the first 6 months by purely dieting. That is how I lost my weight, restricting my diet. I did not take diet pills, although it would have been a faster process. I have currently reached a plateau between 135-140. My weight loss goal was to be at 120. So I still have a long way to go. I'm excited. Once I reach my goal weight of 120, I will start exercising to maintain my weight.

Inspiration

Liquids

Grocery list for liquid diet (winter diet tips)

To take advantage of this list, take it with you each time you go shopping. It’s a method for not consuming too much solids and to prevent any slip ups throughout the month. Expect to lose .5 pound a day. While going to school, prepare rice (congee) in a coffee mug and actual coffee in another mug with cream and sugar (or smoothies like lassi or anything fruity). And ofcourse water in a bottle. Here you have breakfast and lunch. Sometimes instead of congee for lunch, take a lipton soup mix (or with pureed vegetalbes). Yumm salty. There goes salt cravings. During menstrual cycles, take iron rich soups like spinach soup or breakfast essentials in your coffee mug. Always carry water.
Don’t think about what people might think of you.
If you are at an event with lots of food, load up on vegetables and only the curries of set dishes. NO PIECES. If someone offers food, tell them u already ate, not hungry. They need it more than you. Do not visit sites. Forget that they exist and only think of school work. Its more important. If for some reason you feel extra tired and weak, then eat. But it should be a final resort.
If hair is falling out, eat 3 proper meals for two days, then continue back to the diet.

English tea
Breakfast essentials
Fruit Smoothie mix
Frozen veggies for pureeing
